Welcome back, Critter College family! At Critter College, we cherish our unique traditions that bring our diverse community together. These fun and engaging events are designed to celebrate our furry, feathered, and scaled scholars, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Let’s take a closer look at some of the beloved traditions that make Critter College truly special.
Annual Acorn Hunt
One of the most anticipated events of the year is the Annual Acorn Hunt, where students and faculty alike scurry around campus in search of hidden treasures. Squirrels, chipmunks, and even some ambitious raccoons join in the fun, competing to find the most acorns and win the coveted Golden Acorn Trophy. This event not only fosters a sense of camaraderie but also hones our students’ foraging skills, essential for survival in the wild.
Critter Carnival
Every spring, Critter College hosts the Critter Carnival, a spectacular event featuring games, rides, and delicious treats. From the Ant-astic Ant Maze to the Butterfly Ferris Wheel, there’s something for everyone. The highlight of the carnival is the Pie-Eating Contest, where contestants from various species compete to see who can devour the most pies in record time. Last year’s winner, a surprisingly speedy tortoise named Timmy, became an instant campus legend!
Midnight Howl
When the moon is full, the students gather for the Midnight Howl, a tradition that dates back to the founding of Critter College. Wolves, coyotes, and other nocturnal animals lead the campus in a chorus of howls, hoots, and chirps, celebrating the beauty of the night. This tradition is not only a bonding experience but also an opportunity for our nocturnal students to shine.
Bee Dance-Off
Our industrious bee students never miss a chance to show off their incredible dance moves during the Bee Dance-Off. Held in the Flower Pavilion, this event sees bees from all majors and disciplines performing intricate waggle dances to communicate the locations of the best nectar sources. The competition is fierce, but the sense of community and teamwork that emerges is truly heartwarming.
Great Migration Parade
In the fall, Critter College hosts the Great Migration Parade, celebrating the incredible journeys undertaken by many of our student species. Ducks, geese, and other migratory birds take to the skies in a dazzling display of synchronized flying, while land animals like caribou and wildebeests showcase their stamina in a grand march across campus. The parade is a testament to the determination and resilience of our students, inspiring everyone to reach new heights.
Burrow and Nest Fest
As winter approaches, Critter College celebrates Burrow and Nest Fest, where students come together to build cozy homes for the colder months. Rabbits, foxes, and other burrowing animals dig intricate tunnels, while birds and squirrels create elaborate nests in the campus trees. This event fosters a sense of community and highlights the importance of preparation and teamwork.
